Used Pallet Prices – 5 Factors That Determine Market Value

Used pallets offer a cost-effective and sustainable solution in logistics and warehousing. However, their price can vary depending on a number of factors. If you are planning to buy used pallets, it is worth getting to know the main aspects that influence their market value.

1. The condition and quality grade of the pallet

Used pallets are graded according to their condition:

  • Grade 1: Almost as-new condition, with minimal wear, sold at a higher price.

  • Grade 2: With visible signs of wear, but structurally stable, at a more favourable price.

  • Repaired pallets: With a reinforced structure, often in a price range close to that of new pallets.

2. Pallet type and size

Prices are greatly influenced by the type of pallet in question. The most popular variants:

  • EUR pallet (EPAL, 1200x800 mm) – more expensive, as it is standardised and durable.

  • One-way pallet – cheaper, as it is designed for single use.

  • Special pallets (e.g. CP pallets, American GMA pallets) – priced differently based on industrial requirements.

3. Heat treatment and certification

ISPM 15 heat-treated pallets suitable for international shipping are more expensive, as they comply with pest control regulations. If a pallet is not certified, it may be cheaper, but it cannot be used for every purpose.

4. Market demand and seasonal effects

Pallet prices also depend on current supply and demand. At certain times of the year, for example during the end-of-year logistics peak season, prices may rise.

5. Transport costs and geographical location

Pallets are large and heavy products, so transport can be a significant cost. Local sourcing can result in more favourable prices, while transport over longer distances increases unit prices.
