Pallets for Sale – 5 Things Worth Knowing Before You Buy

Pallets are essential in warehousing and logistics; however, choosing the right type depends on a number of factors. Before buying, it is worth examining the available pallets to make sure you choose the option that best suits your needs.
The following five factors will help you find your way when choosing pallets.
1. What type of pallet do you need?
Pallets are designed for different purposes, so one of the most important considerations is choosing the right type. The most common pallet types:
EUR pallet (EPAL) – standard size (1200x800 mm) and durable even in the long term
One-way pallet – a cheaper alternative, mainly for single use
Plastic or metal pallet – for special requirements, for example in the food or chemical industry
2. Should you choose new or used pallets?
New pallets are cleaner, have a longer service life and comply exactly with the standards. Used pallets, on the other hand, are more cost-effective and more sustainable, but their condition can vary. It is worth checking whether the pallets have been refurbished or repaired, as these can be used for longer.
3. What load capacity do you need?
The load capacity of pallets greatly influences which type is suitable for a given task. EUR pallets can withstand a dynamic load of up to 1,500 kg, while one-way pallets generally have a load capacity of between 500 and 1,000 kg. If the pallets are stored in a racking system, the load capacity may be lower.
4. Do you need heat-treated pallets for export?
For international shipping, heat treatment in accordance with the ISPM 15 standard is essential, as it ensures that the pallet is pest-free. If you are buying pallets for export, check that they have the necessary certification.
5. What condition is the pallet in?
If you are buying used pallets, pay attention to the following:
Grade 1 pallets – as-new condition, with minimal wear
Grade 2 pallets – with visible signs of wear, but still in usable condition
Repaired pallets – structurally reinforced, but not new
It is always worth buying from a reliable source to make sure you receive pallets of the right quality.
